There are two broad categories that can be used to group basins and they are the basins that require a counter, also known to some as a bathroom vanity, and the stand-alone basins that do not require a counter.

1. BASINS THAT REQUIRE A COUNTER

A. Counter Top Basins

Counter top basins sit on top of the counter, making installation simple. It usually does not come with a tap hole and would pair well with a tall faucet.

B. Counter Top Glass Basins

If you are looking for something fun and elegant, the glass basin would be a good fit for your bathroom. The nature of glass also makes it so that it there are a variety of interesting designs available for you to choose from.

C. Built-in Basins

Built-in basins are also easy to install as they just need to be dropped into a space carved out on the counter. However, it is important to take note of the size of the basin to make sure that the hole carved on the counter fits your built-in basin. These basins usually come with a tap hole and would pair well with a normal heighted faucet.

D. Undermount Basins

Undermount basins are mounted below the counter space and does not come with a tap hole. It would be important to take note of the measurements of the undermount basin to make sure that the hole carved out from the counter space is able to perfectly fit the basin. As the counter would smoothly transition to the basin, this also makes cleaning easier where you can simply sweep things into the basin to be washed away.

E. Semi-Recessed Basins

A semi-recessed basin is like a built-in basin, but part of the basin protrudes slightly from the countertop. It also usually comes with a tap hole.
